POSITION OVERVIEW
The Critical Engineering Technician will be a part of the Operations team reporting to the Critical Facilities Manager and will perform maintenance on critical facility equipment. The Critical Engineering Technician plays a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our hyperscale, multi-building data center campus. This hands-on position is responsible for ensuring the uptime, reliability, and performance of critical facility systems.
Critical Engineering Technicians perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and rapid response to alarms or incidents involving power, cooling, and networking equipment. The Critical Engineering Technician works across multiple areas, including critical equipment support spaces, that demand precision and strict adherence to operational protocols. This position coordinates with internal teams such as operations, engineering, and security, as well as external vendors and contractors.
Critical Engineering Technicians are detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of working in a fast-paced, 24/7 mission-critical environments. The role offers opportunities for growth and advancement within the data center industry and is foundational to the reliability and scalability of hyperscale infrastructure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform all standard and non-standard activities in accordance with Stream Data Centers’ operating procedures or maintenance work instructions.
- Perform rounds inspecting mechanical, electrical, and fire/life safety systems (MEP/FLS) throughout the building and equipment yards.
- Monitor Building Management System (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) dashboards for alarms and anomalies.
- Perform BMS operations and effectively analyze data to ensure proper functions of all critical systems.
- Execute preventative and corrective maintenance tasks on critical infrastructure including UPS, FCUs, CRAH/CRACs, chillers, generators, and electrical switch gear.
- Work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, network, and project teams to coordinate site-wide activities.
- Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for all equipment related activity support site management to resolve site issues based on priorities.
- Participate in technical training and certification programs to maintain up-to-date knowledge of equipment and best practices.
- Participate in team meetings, shift handovers, and post-mortem reviews to share knowledge and support cross-functional collaboration.
