Job Summary
City of Goodyear is seeking a Fire Inspector I/II to join the Fire Prevention team. This position plays a vital role in protecting the community by ensuring compliance with applicable fire and life safety codes.

Roles & Responsibilities
- Conduct low‑hazard commercial and residential inspections and respond to complaint inspections, documenting all activities.
- Schedule and perform annual inspections for large and complex occupancies, research occupancy files, and verify fire protection systems.
- Conduct plan reviews, issue permits, train agency personnel, and provide written inspection reports.
- Assist and instruct Fire Inspector I and volunteer inspectors with code applications and office procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum three years of fire prevention inspection activities and new‑construction inspections involving fire protection equipment.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Certification:
International Code Council Fire Inspector I, National Fire Protection Association Fire Inspector I, or Arizona State Fire School Fire Inspector I (within one year of employment). - Minimum one year of experience in fire inspections or related field.
- Data entry skills and experience using a record‑management system.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to provide clear inspection reports, and ability to work with customers, firefighters, volunteers, and other city departments.
- Strong problem‑solving, time‑management, and ability to interpret International Fire Code and NFPA standards.
Essential Functions
- Conduct light‑hazard and time‑sensitive commercial and residential fire inspections to verify code compliance.
- Respond to complaints submitted by fire crews or citizens, identify violations, and work to resolve them.
- Document all inspection activities.
- For Fire Inspector II:
Schedule annual inspections of commercial fire protection systems, conduct training sessions, and assist with code interpretations. - Assist citizens, contractors, and agency personnel with code interpretations and information, and prepare written inspection documents.
- Assist and instruct Fire Inspector I and volunteer inspectors in code applications and office procedures.
Examination Process
Resume review followed by a panel interview.
