Performs routine technical and clerical functions. Conducts venipuncture, receives and distributes laboratory specimens, labels tubes and specimen containers, collects specimens, and performs simple tests under supervision. Operates simple laboratory equipment, assists pathologists as needed, and prepares solutions. Processes anatomic pathology and cytology specimens, obtains blood specimens for all age groups serviced, and maintains laboratory equipment while using protective gear to guard against chemical, radiation and infectious hazards.
Must be knowledgeable of emergency procedures and capable of handling multiple priorities in a high volume setting.
- Perform routine technical and clerical functions.
- Perform venipuncture, specimen receipt and distribution of laboratory specimens; may perform CLIA waived laboratory tests.
- Label tubes and specimen containers, collect specimens and perform simple tests under supervision.
- Perform phlebotomist duties as assigned.
- Operate simple lab equipment under supervision.
- Process anatomic pathology and cytology specimens.
- Obtain blood specimens for all age groups serviced.
- Use, maintain and clean laboratory equipment and use protective equipment to protect against chemical, radiation and infectious hazards.
- Be knowledgeable of emergency procedures.
- Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned.

- Operate basic laboratory equipment, computers and medical software.

- Attention to detail to verify relevant data and process specimens ensuring appropriate specimens are handled, packaged and shipped to the designated laboratory according to established protocols and specimen integrity.
- Understand the pre-analytical variables that affect laboratory specimens.
- Correct application of laboratory medical terminology and measurements.
- Organizational, planning, and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks and accomplish work accurately and timely.
- Demonstrate problem solving by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.
- Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high volume setting.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. - Experience:
Ability to complete blood draws independently within six weeks of hire.
- Experience:
6 months of laboratory experience.
