The Safety Specialist manages administrative tasks related to safety programs and health and wellness initiatives. They participate in Health Safety and Wellness CRG’s, assist in launching new programs and systems, and address safety issues as directed by the Occupational Health and Safety Manager. Additionally, the Specialist performs other duties as assigned.
Full-time colleagues are typically scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week, while part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12-24 hours per week. What You Will Do- Provide administrative and operational support for the safety program.
- Serve as a First Aid Responder (certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED) for both work-related and non-work-related incidents.
- Assist in coordinating Health Safety and Wellness CRG meetings and lead them when necessary.
- Conduct required safety training for colleagues as determined by the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Manager.
- Help develop safety training programs in collaboration with the OHS Manager.
- Coordinate and track information related to ongoing safety programs.
- Observe safe work practices and recommend additional training when needed.
- Spend a significant portion of the shift on the floor, observing and coaching safe work practices and material handling skills.
- Manage supply stocking, including refilling and ordering first aid kits, gloves, and other necessary items.
- Accurately and promptly enter training, inspections, and accident data into the EHS platform.
- Participate in and assist with the coordination of various Macy's safety initiatives and programs.
- Conduct monthly inspections as required by Macy's policy (e.g., area inspections, equipment inspections).
- Assist the OHS Manager in preparing for and following up on full facility reviews and Loss Reduction Index evaluations.
- Participate in accident investigations and follow up on recommendations with departments as directed by the OHS Manager.
- Support safety initiatives and motivation programs as needed.
- Collaborate with the OHS Manager to resolve issues or concerns and reach out to support partners in their absence.
- Elevate issues and concerns professionally and with appropriate urgency.
- Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.
- In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.
First Aid and Emergency Response: Ability to serve as a First Aid Responder, with certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED.
Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, compliance, and safety standards related to warehouse and distribution environments.
Administrative and Operational Support: Ability to provide comprehensive administrative and operational support for safety programs, including managing supply stocking and coordinating CRG’s.
Training and Development: Experience in conducting safety training for colleagues and assisting in the development of safety training programs.
Data Management: Proficiency in accurately entering and tracking information related to safety programs, inspections, and accident data in the EHS platform.
