Overview

The Network Administrator provides first-level technical support and maintenance for the City’s network infrastructure, ensuring stable and secure connectivity across all municipal departments, facilities, and public safety networks. This position assists a Senior and Network engineer with daily monitoring, troubleshooting, and configuration of network systems under the guidance of senior IT staff. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Network Administrator with strong foundational knowledge in enterprise networking and a proactive approach to maintaining secure and reliable connectivity across city operations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience supporting and configuring switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewalls in a multi-site environment. They will possess strong troubleshooting and documentation skills, work effectively within a team-oriented IT environment, and show initiative in learning and applying new technologies to improve network performance and resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Perform network design and capacity planning.
  • Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery.
  • Establish service level agreements with end users.
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsource rs, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
  • Manage security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Manage all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, hubs, and UPSs.
  • Ensure network connectivity of all workstations.
  • Administer all equipment, hardware and software upgrades.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Perform server and security audits.
  • Perform system backups and recovery.
  • Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Qualifications
  • Formal Education/Knowledge:
    Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two-year associate s degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
  • Experience:

    Minimum two years of experience in a related field.
  • Certifications and Other Requirements:
    Valid Driver’s License. Ability to meet the criminal background regulations mandated by the FBI CJIS Security Policy. Ability to complete the ITIL Certification within 1 year from the date of hire.
  • Reading:
    Work requires the ability to read technical instructions, technical specifications, trade magazines, responses to RFPs/RFQs, planning documents, policies/procedures, and documents generated by staff at a high level of comprehension.
  • Math:
    Work requires the ability to perform math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and algebra that require calculations and formulas.
  • Writing:
    Work requires the ability to write interoffice memos, creation of process and procedural documentation, user manuals, staff presentations, issue papers, planning documents, and requests for proposals at a high level. Many assignments require translation of technical terms.
