The Senior Systems Engineer ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the city’s IT systems. This position involves designing, implementing, and maintaining systems to support business objectives while ensuring optimal performance and security. The Senior Systems Engineer works collaboratively with IT teams and stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, support system enhancements, and implement new technologies to drive operational efficiency. Additionally, this role includes the design and management of the systems architecture, including the physical appliances that support the virtual environment.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled and motivated Senior Systems Engineer with a deep understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure, exceptional troubleshooting abilities, and a proactive mindset. The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing and optimizing complex environments, with a focus on performance, security, and scalability. The Ideal candidate will have advanced experience with administration and support of critical systems, including the management of virtual infrastructure, Microsoft Entra, Office 365, endpoint management systems, DNS services, as well as backup solutions.

• Collaborates with network staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
• Works with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
• Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members, fostering skill development and promoting best practices in systems engineering and operational management.

• Designs and deploys new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
• Performs cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
• Conducts research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
• Interacts and negotiates with vendors, outsource rs, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.

• Gauges the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
• Proposes and creates system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams.
• Designs and performs server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the city’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
• Integrates servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
