Utility Technician I or II - Production
City of Goodyear Economic Development is hiring for a Utility Technician I or II – Production. The role focuses on maintaining water wells, chemical feeders, pumps, motors, telemetering sensor equipment, treated water storage facilities, water distribution pipelines, and related appurtenances. The technician performs technical and mechanical work in operating and maintaining water treatment and conveyance facilities, and may provide guidance to peers.

- Continuous improvement of operations by streamlining work processes and reducing turnaround times.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and maintain open communication with internal and external customers.
- Adhere to industry and city safety standards; prepare and submit required safety records and reports.
- Execute routine and emergency operational, maintenance, and repair functions on water production equipment.
- Conduct daily inspections of water treatment facilities, wells, booster stations, storage tanks, and related equipment.
- Review water production/demand lab results, take samples, and perform field tests to confirm quality and make necessary adjustments.
- Assume duties of the Production Division Senior Technician as assigned.
- Minimum two years of related experience in water treatment or distribution system maintenance and operation.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL Class A preferred.
- Adeq Grade I Operator License in Water Treatment or Water Distribution; obtain Grade II within 12 months of hire.
- Strong technical knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, instrumentation, and basic RO and arsenic treatment operations (preferred).
- Ability to read written instructions and manuals, perform basic math, write reports, and provide managerial direction to helpers as needed.
- Demonstrated decision‑making ability, problem‑solving skills, and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Adjust pump operations to balance pressure and flow; produce a summary report.
- Complete daily water production and demand reports on time.
- Familiarize with maintenance schedules and prepare verbal status reports to the Division Supervisor.
- Perform maintenance on disinfection equipment per manufacturer recommendations.
- Acquire basic knowledge of Reverse Osmosis and Arsenic Adsorption treatment plants; demonstrate operations.
- Order chemicals and maintain at least five days of operational supply.
- Develop skills for on‑call/stand‑by duties and safety program participation.
- Operate and maintain Cla‑Valve components and perform wire‑to‑water efficiency tests.
