Metrology Technician 3 – Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII
This position reports to the Team C106 Quality/NDT at Newport News Shipbuilding. It is a full‑time, first shift role requiring U.S. citizenship and no relocation assistance or telework eligibility. Travel is not required and no security clearance is needed to start.

Utilizes metrology calibration systems and techniques to measure characteristics of objects using measurement science principles. Performs measurement surveys with Photogrammetry, Total Stations, Laser Trackers, CMMs or other electronic 3‑D instruments, planning and executing the survey with 3‑D model‑based software and design drawings, and analyzing collected data for the end user. Develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering designs.
Recommends design or test methods utilizing metrology methodologies to achieve product reliability. Compiles and analyzes measured data reports, including analysis of relevant variables affecting product and processes. May use Visual Basic to enhance the functionality of 3‑D measurement software.
A program graduation certificate from an approved institution may be substituted for an Apprentice Certification, Associate’s degree, or other 2‑year technical degree in a relevant field and 3 years of related experience. Two years of related experience can be substituted for an Associate’s degree, and four years of non‑related experience can substitute for an Associate’s degree.
