Ship fitter – (Fabrication Shop)

(THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN CHARLESTON, SC)

Shifts:

1st and 2nd (10-hour shifts), with overtime available on Fridays and Saturdays

Pay Range: $35–$40 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Per Diem: $140 per day

A leading defense contractor is seeking experienced Shipfitters to join its fabrication team supporting high-impact naval construction projects. This role is ideal for professionals with at least 5 years of experience in shipfitting or the welding/fabrication industry. You’ll be responsible for precision layout, fitting, and assembly of prefabricated components, as well as machining and welding preparation for advanced naval vessels.

• Lay out, fit, align, and assemble cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding
• Perform machining operations such as straightening, grinding, burring, drilling, reaming, and countersinking to close tolerances
• Select equipment and materials based on general instructions and job specifications
• Set up and prepare materials for welding, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up
• Repair or rework parts distorted by welding to restore required tolerances
• Monitor and verify product quality using statistical process control or other inspection procedures
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols
• Collaborate with welders, engineers, and supervisors to meet production goals
• Maintain safety standards and adhere to all OSHA and company protocols

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must pass a lifelong bg check
• Must pass a hair follicle drug test
• Hiring based on resume

• This is a large fabrication shop setting, not a shipyard environment

This is a Contract position based out of Goose Creek, SC.

The pay range for this position is $27.08 – $44.18/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Goose Creek,SC.
