Nurse Practitioner, Medical Oncology

In this specialty care role, the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will primarily be assigned to medical oncology. Oncology APPs work interdependently with a medical oncologist in managing oncology patients. The care provided by APPs may include:

1. Teamwork: Teamwork is essential between the oncology team and the interprofessional team to ensure patients receive comprehensive care. The interprofessional team may include outpatient services such as dietary/nutrition, naturopathic doctors, counselors, physical and occupational therapists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, and primary care providers.

2. Professional Development: The oncology APP should demonstrate a desire for personal and professional growth, achieved through establishing and periodically evaluating professional goals.

3. Clinical Care: The oncology APP must practice evidence-based medicine and is encouraged to bring innovative ideas to the team to deliver high-quality care. Competence across the cancer trajectory and critical thinking are essential for effective clinical care.
