Position: Social Services Coordinator (Elkhart)

Salary Range

Starting at $43,888.00 annually.

Job Objective

As the Social Service Coordinator you will provide oversight and leadership to the social service team and all social service programming, supporting the overall social services of the operation and ensuring the Mission is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do
  • Provide leadership and direction to all social service programs within the Elkhart service area, including emergency assistance, Pathway of Hope, and Food Assistance.
  • Collaborate with other agencies to ensure holistic help for clients and the community, and maintain appropriate documentation such as MOUs, contracts, and releases of information.
  • Oversee all food assistance operations, ordering food and arranging food bank pick‑ups.
  • Organize and coordinate the Christmas Assistance program throughout the service area.
  • Maintain awareness of local resources relevant to client needs.
  • Serve as liaison for The Salvation Army Elkhart by attending community social service groups throughout the service area.
  • Work with the Development Director to secure appropriate funding for social services.
  • Enhance personal knowledge and skills through regional and divisional educational forums.
  • Use an electronic database to enter, retrieve, and maintain accurate case records per protocols.
  • Approve client service transactions, monitor fund balances, and request funding as appropriate.
  • Fulfill ad hoc and periodic survey requests, and provide information needed for reports to administration.
  • Maintain a gift card log and send signed sheets to the bookkeeper monthly.
  • Participation in external groups and meetings must be pre‑approved by a corps officer; all partnerships must be approved.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education
:
Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Background Checks
:
Position requires a completed background check; results will be reviewed.

Experience
:
One to two years of relevant experience in social services.

Certifications
:
Valid driver's license and maintenance of The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; completion of Safe from Harm training within the first 90 days of employment; completion of the Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities
:

  • Able to speak, write, and understand English for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clients.
  • Preferred ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish for effective communication with clients.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
Supervisory Responsibility

Responsible to supervise case manager(s) and social service volunteers.

Physical Requirements
  • Good speaking, hearing, and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity.
  • Lift, pull, and push materials up to 50 pounds.
  • May require bending, squatting, and walking.
  • May require standing for extended periods.
Travel

Travel throughout the service area (Elkhart County, LaGrange County, Steuben County) as needed.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office environment; may require some weekend and evening work.
