Role DescriptionAs a Fluid Dynamicist, you will deliver analysis, testing and design consultancy services to the UK Ministry of Defence and commercial customers. Your day‑to‑day focus will be on computational analyses and experimental tests related to the design of marine propulsors, fluid‑structure interaction, underwater radiated noise and cavitation across a variety of marine platforms. In a multidisciplinary engineering group, you will also be involved in ship and submarine stability, seakeeping and manoeuvring.
This role is suitable for someone with experience in a transferable engineering environment, such as aerospace or automotive, who has a proven track record of applying fluid dynamics expertise to innovative design challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver technical tasks in support of the design and operation of ships and submarines, breaking down complex problems, planning execution and working with project managers to track progress against budget and schedule
- Coordinate with CAD, structures, instrumentation and workshop teams during model design, build and testing phases
- Conduct experiments and simulations, including detailed data analysis and reporting, taking ownership of the quality and accuracy of outputs
- Support business development activities through the creation of technical proposals, delivery plans and resource estimates, and deliver technical presentations at conferences, customer meetings and industry forums
- Mentor and support junior team members, helping to develop their knowledge in your areas of expertise
- Strong experience in aerodynamics and/or hydrodynamics within engineering environments (marine, aerospace, automotive)
- Knowledge of data analysis techniques, including experience with MATLAB or Python
- Experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), ideally with StarCCM+
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly
- Highly motivated, collaborative mindset and strong attention to detail
- Effective team working and organisational skills
- Hold a BEng/MEng in Naval Architecture, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline

Working Hours and Location37 hours per week based rid working patterns are available.
