Overview

Position:
Youth Services Coordinator. Full‑time, 40 hours per week.

Location:

Alamance County Government, with regular service at multiple library branches throughout the county.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and implement youth programming in coordination with staff and branch librarians.
  • Coordinate system‑wide age‑appropriate learning programming, primarily Summer Reading.
  • Purchase all youth materials in collaboration with the Collection Development Librarian.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local schools, childcare providers, and other youth‐related organizations to promote reading and digital literacy.
  • Assist with the library’s community engagement efforts and identify library & literacy outreach opportunities.
  • Regularly staff all service desks and troubleshoot minor technology‑related issues.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 2 to 3 years of library experience in a children’s programming role is required. MLIS is preferred.

  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in community‑facing roles is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to provide respectful, equitable assistance to patrons of all backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, internet searching, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to learn and apply library‑specific technology, including ILS systems and electronic resources.
  • Creativity in program planning, display design, and patron engagement.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, sound judgment, and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, reach, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to push/pull loaded book carts and access materials on high and low shelves.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patrons and staff in a busy environment.

Salary & Hours

Salary range: $50,272 – $53,000 per year. Flexible work schedule is required, including monthly weekend or evening hours and regular travel to different library branches.
