Responsibilities
  • Conduct interviews with parents and caretakers to understand their situation and determine their eligibility for Subsidized Child Care Assistance. Manage subsidy vouchers for eligible families and providers.
  • Verify, document and key information to ensure services are delivered accurately and per policy guidelines.
  • Help families understand their childcare needs and options and promote the selection of childcare assistance based on parental choice.
  • Improve the quality of life of children and families by helping them retain critical childcare benefits to support participation in educational training, employment activities, and early intervention activities to enhance their development.
  • Manage an active caseload while following policies and procedures that help maximize state and federal support by maintaining up-to-date, detailed case records.
  • Counsel parents and caregivers on quality childcare, developmental monitoring, childcare resources, and the five-star licensing system.
  • Maintain contact with families and childcare providers in order to continue to assess appropriate service(s) are received.
Minimum Education and Experience Required

Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately credited institution or;
Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately credited institution and one year of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education.

Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills — written and spoken — with the ability to listen well and explain clearly. You know the local resources, both public and private, and feel comfortable connecting people with the right programs or services.
  • Familiarity with the basics of social work—how to support individuals, families, and groups, and how to approach real-world community challenges, and comfortable using basic assessment tools.
  • Analytical thinking, compassion, and sound judgment.
  • Integrity, empathy, and the ability to remain composed in emotionally charged situations.
  • A drive to solve problems and build trust for those who may not have a voice. You have a general understanding of behavioral and socioeconomic issues and how they can be addressed.
  • The ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with families, care providers, and various child care and other community resource organizations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic computer systems.
  • Valid NC driver’s license.

All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.
