AFSCME, Chapter V bargaining unit members interested in the vacant position shall make their interest known to the Human Resources Department on or before December 25, 2025. Non-members, such as existing part-time and/or temporary employees, may make their interest known during the open period but Employer will not entertain non-member applicants before December 26, 2025.
Under the direction of the Finance Director, the Staff Accountant performs a variety of complex finance/accounting duties as directed.
- Prepares and maintains various records within the general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, and inventory systems.
- Handles a variety of confidential materials and sensitive issues that require discretion.
- Provides support to other Township administrators, as assigned.
- Performs all functions of Accounts Payable process.
- Prepares and records journal entries.
- Maintains records and completes 1099 process at year-end.
- Assists with annual budget development and preparation.
- Provides data and financial analysis requested by the outside independent auditors.
- Responsible for ordering and ensuring adequate office and operating supplies.
- Maintains data for the Township fixed assets program and prepares year‑end schedules.
- Maintains inventory records.
- Maintains list of Township vehicles and properties and ensures that they are properly insured.
- Assists Finance Director in preparing and presenting pertinent records required for the annual audit.
- Acts as backup for utility billing process.
- Assists and acts as backup for payroll process.
- Receipts and reconciles police bond payments and issues checks accordingly.
- Acts as a member of the team; providing a capable backup for vacations and sick days of Finance staff.
- Perform various other related duties as assigned.
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
- Previous accounting experience.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Ability to work under time constraints and deadlines.
- Confidentiality and integrity.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Independent judgment and proficiency in accounting principles.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field.
- Knowledge of Windows and BS&A Software.
- A minimum of three to five years of progressively more responsible accounting work or management experience.
- Experience in governmental accounting.

Physical Requirements:This is primarily sedentary work requiring limited physical effort. Position requires visual acuity for reviewing, checking, preparing, and maintaining written and computer files. Incumbent is required to have sufficient hearing to accurately perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Manual dexterity to operate standard office, data entry, and word processing equipment is required.
