Overview
The English Learner (EL) Facilitator is responsible for assisting K-12 English Learners (EL). The EL Facilitator provides support in developing English proficiency and supports students’ access to grade level content expectations. The EL Facilitator may work one-on-one or with a group of EL students primarily within the classroom. Fluency in a language other than English is not required. Supporting students in multiple buildings is likely.

District-Wide (Buildings TBD) for the School Year. Rate of Pay: $18.50 per hour (up to 29 hours per week).
Essential Duties- Responsible for assisting English Learners, generally grades K-12, at various Grand Blanc schools.
- Provides EL student support in developing English proficiency and assistance with grade level content expectations.
- Supports the development of academic language skills, student accommodations and more.
- Integrates the instruction of strategies to help improve the student’s independent academic performance.
- Works collaboratively with district instructional staff, ESOL program staff, students and families.
- Communicates regularly and effectively with teachers and administrators both orally and in writing.
- Electronically develops and documents instructional supports of EL students, work schedules.
- Actively participates in ESOL Program professional development meetings and applies learning to work with students.
- Provides input about culture and language acquisition to facilitate understanding in the school community.
- May facilitate home/school communication and partnerships promoting access to information and translation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Minimally sixty (60) credit hours of college coursework in education, world language, social work or related field preferred. Coursework from a Michigan teacher preparation program in second language acquisition/linguistics/ESL methodology desirable. Michigan teaching certification with ESL / Bilingual endorsement desirable.
Two years documented experience working with linguistically and/or culturally diverse, school-age children required. Experience supporting or implementing English language instruction with bilingual children / English Learners required. Experience supporting bilingual children’s access to content preferred.
Skills/Other: Advanced bilingual abilities preferred. Ability to read, write, understand and speak interpersonal and academic English proficiently. Demonstrated cultural competency to work with students and families of various linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Ability to communicate with ESOL Program staff and district staff through email and/or other manners. Demonstrated competency with technology including Google/ other platforms. Ability to communicate with people of all ages.
Ability to accept direction and collaborate with teachers and staff. Ability to represent the school district in a professional manner at all times. Valid Michigan driver’s license and the ability to travel to and from the school district buildings. Ability to work a flexible workday, work week and work year. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to accurately complete required paperwork and reports.
Punctuality and good attendance are requirements of the position. Ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policy and established administrative guidelines.
