Overview

Respiratory Therapist - Respiratory Care - Full-Time Nights (6:00 pm – 6:30 am) Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Henry Ford Health Genesys, Grand Blanc, MI.

• Provide respiratory therapy as ordered by physician according to established hospital procedures and standards, including assessing patient respiratory status, recommending interventions, and evaluating treatment effectiveness for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. Collaborate with physicians and nursing staff as part of an interdisciplinary team to promote rehabilitation of respiratory capabilities and ensure care aligns with patient age group needs.
• Assess patient cardiopulmonary status regularly; interpret physician orders and patient data to establish treatment plans; collaborate with physicians and nurses regarding various respiratory therapy modalities.
• Implement treatment modalities such as SVN, IPPB, CPT, USN, specimen collection, and IS according to procedures.
• Administer oxygen delivery devices (nasal cannula, venturi mask, simple and non-rebreathing masks, aerosol and tracheostomy masks, CPAP/BIPAP equipment) per procedure.
• Perform diagnostic procedures including blood gas sampling/analysis, bronchoscopy, polysomnography, and pulmonary function studies per assignment and protocol.
• Prepare and administer inhalant medications; monitor for adverse reactions.
• Assess and document patient tolerance, response, and progress to treatment; recognize condition changes and notify appropriate staff.
• Provide patient and family education, and support education for staff and students in respiratory therapy procedures and new developments.
• Assist in training respiratory students from affiliated colleges; serve as a resource for Respiratory Care Technicians.
• Respond to codes and emergencies by maintaining airways, performing manual ventilation, cardiovascular interventions, blood gas analyses, and implementing mechanical ventilation as needed; troubleshoot related equipment (pulse oximeters, ventilators, etc.).
• Care for patients on mechanical ventilation, maintain/adjust airway devices, perform suctioning, and collaborate with physicians on ventilator management; wean patients when appropriate.
• Implement, monitor, and evaluate CPAP/BIPAP unit use; maintain and troubleshoot related equipment and perform quality checks.
• Maintain, clean, test, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment; calibrate blood gas analysis devices as required.
• Maintain knowledge of current respiratory therapy trends through meetings, training, and literature.
• Perform other related duties as indicated by supervision.
• Essential functions include strong interpersonal, critical thinking, attention to detail, motor skills, physical stamina, and ability to work with alarms and emergency equipment; working conditions involve exposure to infections, hazards, and safety procedures.

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC) required within 6 months of hire.
• Licensed Respiratory Therapist (Michigan Board) required within 3 months of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 1 month of hire or as applicable; instructor certification acceptable.
• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Neonatal Resuscitation certification preferred within 12 months of hire; NRP tracked for certain roles.
• Respiratory care experience preferred but not required.
