General Summary

Up to $7,500 Sign-on Bonus

Part Time Benefit Eligible

Shift: PT 24 hours per week, midnight shift 7pm-7:30am with weekend and holiday rotation required

Responsible for performing all CT procedures without requiring constant supervision. Can exercise independent judgment and initiative to produce high quality diagnostic images, using proper positioning technique and radiation safety practices (ALARA). The Technologist must have the ability to set up and monitor the operations of computerized tomography equipment such as the computer, optical disc unit, gantry, power injector, and use laser images to produce hard copy images (when needed).

Must have an understanding of protocols and procedures used in CT scanning. Work directly with patients, physicians, and fellow associates. Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care to the age group(s) served.

Responsibilities
  • Perform computed tomography procedures.
  • Collaborate with patients' clinical history with procedures, ensuring information is documented and available for the Radiologist.
  • Prepare patients for procedures; provide instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and help minimize anxiety.
  • Operate computed tomographic equipment and accessories (perform tube warm-ups and calibrations daily).
  • Select appropriate program for the desired protocol.
  • Position patient to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patients' ability and comfort.
  • Immobilize patient as required for appropriate examination.
  • Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Assume responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patient during procedures.
  • Assist the Radiologist/Physician during interventional CT procedures, and maintain aseptic surgical techniques.
  • Perform venipuncture using aseptic techniques.
  • Prepare, identify, and/or administer contrast media as per institutional policies.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, manipulate display parameters, and understand Retrospective Reformations, Post Processing Reformations, and FMPRs (provide hardcopy films when necessary).
  • Maintain archival storage of digitized data as appropriate.
  • Initiate basic life support actions when necessary.
  • Provide patient education.
  • Maintain patient records, respecting confidentiality and institutional policies.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and maintain assigned area.
  • Provide practical instruction for students.
  • Manage inventory and purchase of supplies for the assigned area.
  • Observe Universal precautions and maintain equipment cleanliness.
  • Apply patient relation skills.
  • Pursue continuing education.
  • Identify patients using two identifiers.
  • Perform other duties within the scope of computerized tomography.
  • Essential functions include mobility, manual dexterity, effective communication, patient support, and operation of PACS and RIS systems.
  • Work in environments with exposure to infectious diseases and ionizing radiation.
  • Complete required orientation and training.
  • Minimum Education/Experience
    • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program with 4-6 weeks of CT training.
    • 1+ year of general Radiology experience, including 6-12 months with CT scanners.
    Certifications/Licenses
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, obtained within 3 months of hire.
    • ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology with specialization in Computed Tomography, obtained within 18 months of hire, including onsite training and passing the CT registry exam.
