General Summary
  • Use independent professional judgment, analytical skills, and nursing process to provide a full range of delegated, interdependent, and independent nursing services to patients.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence, compassion, customer service orientation, focus on process and outcomes, and cost‑consciousness under the Seven Dimensions of Patient Care and Benner's Domains of Nursing Practice.
  • Provide patient care that respects patient rights, dignity, values, culture, preferences, and expressed needs.
  • Assess patient/family needs for information and education across the continuum and implement patient teaching using a variety of techniques and methods.
  • Collaborate with patients/families, hospital staff, and community agencies to develop discharge plans that prepare patients for continued care needs.
  • Complete assessment for risk factors including fall, skin breakdown, VTE, and aspiration, and initiate appropriate initiatives such as the Skin Bundle and Fall Prevention Plan.
  • Document nursing interventions and progress toward outcomes (NIC/NOC) on every shift as required.
  • Educate patient regarding treatment plans, safety measures, medications, and self‑care as indicated; ensure appropriate follow‑up arrangements upon discharge.
  • Administer therapeutic regimens, perform basic nursing procedures (dressing changes, catheterization, NG tube insertion, suctioning), and implement medical interventions as ordered.
  • Establish and maintain peripheral IV therapy and obtain body fluid specimens as per procedure.
  • Administer medications, IVs, and blood products according to established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare patients for surgery or other invasive procedures following established guidelines.
  • Utilize and troubleshoot equipment such as IV pumps, PCA pumps, epidural pumps, feeding pumps, and patient beds.
  • Monitor patient responses, including physiologic parameters, pain levels, respiratory status, neurologic status, cardiac status, and urinary output; intervene appropriately and communicate changes using SBAR or standardized approaches.
  • Respond promptly to life‑threatening emergencies, including initiation of CPR and assembly of emergency equipment.
  • Provide support for families in crisis or grieving, and promote a physically safe environment using restraints according to policy and universal precautions.
  • Demonstrate adherence to patient confidentiality requirements and promote quality patient care through continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist in evaluating new products, procedures, and nursing practices, and participate in educational and quality monitoring activities.
  • Teach, mentor, and orient student nurses while participating in unit and departmental councils and staff meetings.
  • Provide leadership and direction to other staff, communicate expectations, observe patients, assess performance, and support a healthy work environment.
Education / Experience Requirements
  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing within 60 days of hire.
  • Certified BLS Practitioner (AHA) within 90 days of hire, or Certified Instructor.
  • Graduate of an approved professional RN nursing program.
  • One year minimum nursing experience (ER preferred).
