An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students the opportunity to understand daily operations and gain hands-on clinical experience. Each hospital provides a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgeries, and managing medical cases. This externship also offers a chance to develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. For details, see the stipend amounts and program information.
