Position: City Sidewalk Snow Removal Operator

City Sidewalk Snow Removal Operator
Grand Forks Snow Removal
Grand Forks, ND & East Grand Forks, MN

We’re hiring a dependable city sidewalk snow removal operator for the upcoming snow season!

You’ll drive a company pickup truck with a trailer, transporting a sidewalk snowblower between residential properties. At each stop, you’ll unload the machine, clear the assigned city sidewalks, and load and secure it before heading to the next property.

Some properties also require hand shoveling in front of the garage and along the walkway to the front door. Our custom GPS navigation system guides you through your assigned route and provides property-specific service instructions.

Responsibilities
  • Safely drive a pickup truck while towing a trailer.
  • Load, unload, and properly secure the sidewalk machine at each stop.
  • Operate the snowblower to thoroughly clear assigned city sidewalks, including corner properties.
  • At designated properties, shovel in front of garage doors and along walkways to the front door, in addition to clearing city sidewalks.
  • Perform additional hand shoveling around obstacles and in areas the machine cannot fully clear.
  • Follow your GPS-guided route and property-specific instructions.
  • Return to properties to correct missed areas or other service mistakes as needed.
  • Work carefully around pedestrians, vehicles, landscaping, and other property.
  • Perform basic equipment maintenance, including greasing, checking tire pressure, and replacing broken snowblower shear bolts using proper safety procedures.
  • Monitor fuel levels and refuel the truck and sidewalk machine with the correct fuel as needed. Keep the company-issued fuel card secure and use it only for authorized purchases.
  • Keep the truck cab and equipment clean, organized, and free of trash.
  • Promptly report equipment problems, accidents, or property damage.
  • Communicate with your supervisor about route progress, delays, and return visits.
Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. A motor vehicle record (MVR) check will be conducted.
  • Ability to safely tow and back a trailer.
  • Dependable transportation to work.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality throughout the snow season.
  • Availability during snow events, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in cold, snowy, and windy conditions.
  • Ability to perform repeated hand shoveling, load and unload equipment, and get in and out of the truck throughout the shift.
  • Willingness and ability to perform basic maintenance and field repairs.
  • Comfort using a phone or tablet for GPS navigation.
  • Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and responsibly handle company equipment and a fuel card.

Experience towing trailers or operating snow removal equipment is preferred.

Schedule & Pay

This is a seasonal, weather-dependent position. A full route is expected to take approximately nine hours, depending on snowfall and route conditions. Start times and shift lengths vary, and additional time may be needed for return visits.

Hourly pay: $25-30, depending on experience.

Customer Tips: Any tips customers give you are yours to keep, in addition to your hourly pay and eligible end-of-season bonuses.

Two End-of-Season Bonuses
  • Season Reliability Bonus — $500.00: Earned by employees who stay through the end of the season, consistently arrive on time for assigned shifts, and complete their assigned work, including required return visits. Approved absences do not count against eligibility.
  • Safe Operation Bonus — $500.00: Earned by employees who follow safe operating procedures and finish the season without preventable damage to company equipment or customer property. Normal wear and mechanical failures unrelated to operator misuse do not count against eligibility.

All accidents, damage, and equipment issues must be reported promptly. Reporting an incident does not automatically disqualify an employee from a bonus. Full bonus terms and payment dates will be provided in writing at hiring.
