The Senior Truss Technician will be responsible to design residential and commercial floor and roof trusses using design software. They will use architectural drawings, structural drawings and specifications from architects and engineer, to create layouts and component drawings. Will communicate on a daily basis with both internal and external customers in ensuring all critical information is correctly incorporated in the component designs and layouts.
Key Responsibilities- Review sketches, drawings, specifications, and other engineering data provided by design professionals
- Evaluate the feasibility of design ideas based on safety, function, budget, and market characteristics
- Research production specifications, provide cost estimates, and itemized production requirements
- Modify and refine designs to conform to customer specifications or building plan changes
- Ensure compliance with relevant building codes and standards
- Generate truss layouts for final construction
- Develop component documents for work orders to optimize cutting and assembly processes
- Mentor and help train junior technicians, fostering a collaborative and learning environment
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the design team
- Maintain consistent quality design work within the department
- Collaborate with sales, customers, and engineering teams on technical inquiries and design presentations
- Present designs and modifications to sales, customers, architects, and engineers
- Communicate with immediate peers and peers in other departments for maintaining continuity of design philosophy and effectiveness of designs
- Communicate with customers as needed to clarify the customer expectations
- Minimum of 5 years of industry experience with a proven track record in truss design
- Expertise in industry software applications (Mik Tek Software Suite)
- High School diploma, GED, or Associates’ Degree required
- Proficient in Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point
- CAD and BIM experience preferred
- SBCA Truss Technician Level 1 certification preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Ability to analyze technical problems, determine root causes and develop remediation strategies for permanent resolutions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to recommend changes to drive business objectives
- Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency, and risks, making clear decisions in the best interests of the organization
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
- Ability to effectively operate computer hardware and software
- Skilled and proficient in design software
- Knowledge of codes such as ASCE7 and TPI
