Summary

This Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position is located at the Grand Island VA Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. The LPN works under the direction of an RN as a member of a Primary Care team, providing basic and specialized nursing care for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of physical, mental, behavioral, or psychological needs.

Salary: $44,558 – $69,943 per year (GS‑3 – GS‑6)

• Serve as an LPN on a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) in Primary Care.
• Assist with intake of Veterans in preparation for provider visits and maintain clinic flow.
• Complete pertinent clinical reminders and preventative health screenings.
• Document all data collected and nursing care provided in the Veterans electronic medical record.
• Assist providers with exams/procedures as needed.
• Perform treatments and procedures such as electrocardiograms, vital signs, weights, blood glucose readings, basic foot care, bladder scans, ear flushes, etc.
• Track and administer required immunizations.
• Administer ordered medications in accordance with Medical Center and Nursing Service policy and monitor for any side effects.
• Participate in the management and follow‑up of patient care needs and requests.
• Initiate procedure preparations, adapting them to patients’ physical and emotional needs before, during and after procedures, observing and managing therapeutic or possible complications resulting from the procedure.
• Initiate and perform nursing measures to prevent complications by recognizing deviations and/or changes in patient’s conditions.
• Recognize and respond/initiates emergency measures. Respond promptly to emergency situations in the clinic including but not limited to administering CPR.
• Perform venipuncture and specimen collection and prepare specimens for storage and/or transport.
• Participate in PACT team huddles and meetings as needed.

• United States Citizenship.
• Active, full, current and unrestricted licensure as a Graduate Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (e.g., Puerto Rico), of the United States or the District of Columbia.
• Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Training provided.
• Basic English language proficiency.
• Experience at GS‑03 – GS‑06 levels as described in the job announcement.
