Registered Nurse – Community Living Center

Summary
This is an open continuous announcement that will remain open until the closing date or until filled. Applicants will be reviewed and referred on a regular basis. The position is eligible for the EDRP Recruitment/relocation incentive and may authorize a recruitment incentive for highly qualified applicants. Alternate Work Schedule (Work 72 hours – get paid for 80 hours) is available.
- English Language Proficiency – proficiency in basic written and spoken English
- Graduated from an accredited professional nursing school (ACEN or CCNE)
- OR individuals attending a master’s level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a Bachelor’s level degree in Nursing may have the opportunity to become registered
- Upon achievement of a state license, the individual may be appointed on a temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program
- For graduates of foreign nursing schools, a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration is required
- Graduate foreign nursing education higher than associate degree must have a formal equivalency validation from a recognized evaluator, such as ICD
- State license: one full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory is required
- Physical Requirements:
participation in a pre‑employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre‑employment process
- At the Grand Island VA Community Living Center, nurses are at the heart of everything we do
- Provide hands‑on care, administer treatments, develop individualized care plans, mentor support staff, and guide patients through safe transitions
- Provide leadership and mentorship to licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants
- Coordinate seamless care transitions and discharges that support safety and continuity of care
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans in partnership with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team
- Safely administer medications and perform procedures per policy, carefully monitoring effectiveness and patient response
- Educate and empower patients and families with strategies for self‑management, independence, and improved quality of life
- Support staff development through orientation, ongoing training, and skill‑building to strengthen clinical excellence
- Contribute to quality improvement projects that enhance patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction
- Participate in shaping and improving policies, procedures, and practices that advance nursing care in the CLC

- Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% matching by VA - Insurance: health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care, and other federal insurance programs (may be carried into retirement)
- Work Schedule:
Full‑time nights are available; alternate 72/80 hour schedule (work 72 hours – get paid for 80) - Night shift: 5:45 pm – 6:15 am; work scheduled Sunday–Saturday, including rotating weekends and holidays
- EDRP authorized – eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program; must meet eligibility and submit application within four months of appointment
- Recruitment/relocation incentive may be authorized for eligible highly qualified applicants
- EDRP Authorized:
Eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program; award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application
Long‑term care and/or rehabilitation experience is preferred.
