Job Summary
The Med Surg Ortho Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries and those with musculoskeletal conditions. This role involves managing post-operative care, pain control, mobility assistance, and patient education while ensuring adherence to safety and infection control standards.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver direct patient care for orthopedic and general medical-surgical patients.
- Monitor vital signs, surgical sites, and neurovascular status; promptly report changes.
- Administer medications, pain management therapies, and IV fluids as prescribed.
- Assist patients with mobility, transfers, and physical therapy exercises.
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care, discharge instructions, and rehabilitation plans.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collaborate with surgeons, physical therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize recovery.
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, infection control, and safety standards.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing).
- Licensure: Current RN license in [State].
- Certifications: BLS – Required; ACLS – Preferred; ONC – Preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of Med Surg or orthopedic nursing experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of orthopedic procedures and post-op care.
- Excellent assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication and patient education abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and assist with patient mobility for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for wound care and medication administration.
