Assistant Professor of Accounting

Summary: The Davis School of Business (DSB) at Colorado Mesa University (CMU) is seeking candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor of Accounting. The position is full-time, tenure-track starting August 2026. As a member of the DSB, you will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses primarily in accounting.

CMU is a state-funded institution that emphasizes quality teaching and research. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; courses are delivered on-campus, online, and in a hybrid format, though our main focus is on in-person learning on a dynamic residential campus. In addition to teaching, scholarship within your discipline is expected along with advising students and service at the school and university level.

CMU is a modern campus nestled in the Grand Valley in beautiful western Colorado, home of Colorado's wine and fruit country (including the famous Palisade peaches), with close access to some of the best outdoor activities in the region. The Davis School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Following the Teacher-Scholar Model, our faculty members strive to be excellent teachers while incorporating their research into lectures, students’ projects, and other activities that develop the skills and competencies demanded by today’s organizations and businesses. Most full-time faculty have terminal degrees (PhDs, Doctoral Degree, Juris Doctors, etc.)

in their areas of expertise. Moreover, more than 70% of our faculty have professional-practitioner experiences in their domains.

• A terminal degree (PhD or DBA) in Accounting, or related discipline with significant coursework (at least 18 graduate credit hours) in Accounting; ABD with a dissertation defense date and completion of all degree requirements on or before August 2026 will be considered.
• Demonstrated potential for exceptional teaching performance.
• Commitment to best practices in instruction, student advising/mentoring, and curriculum development.
• Demonstrated dedication to advancing a research agenda and producing scholarly work relevant to accounting.
• Demonstrated potential for active involvement in institutional, community, and/or professional activities.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or other accounting related designations
• Experience teaching college-level accounting courses beyond student teaching
• Five-plus years of accounting experience is strongly preferred given our hands-on, application-oriented approach in the classroom.

Salary: $85,000.. Commensurate with education and experience. Excellent health and retirement benefits package.
