the division of youth services (dys) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment and parole. Dys is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the district court to the custody of the colorado department of human services. The division operates 15 secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed.
The division also contracts with numerous private residential and non-residential service providers throughout the state. For pre-adjudicated youth, the division is also responsible for the management and oversight of senate bill 91-94; a state-funded, locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming, the division administers juvenile parole services throughout the state.

overall function of the work unit
this work unit exists to provide academic, vocational, and other education-related services to youth in institutional facilities, to provide professional consultation to community programs which serve dys youth, and to establish and maintain collaboration with other state and community agencies that provide or monitor education services to include transitions and other services.
job duties:
classroom monitoring, scheduling and results monitoring . use the lesson plans, computer programs, and other sources to assist in the classroom with the teacher present and/or as a proctor of the computer based program used for the content. Provide work to youth and collect work while maintaining structure and behavioral supports; assure youth are completing online work and monitor progress digitally while communicating that progress.
Maintain a secure classroom environment and a secure test environment. Support the map test, state mandated tests, and ged tests for identified students and with a communicated schedule. Tutor students on specific classes. Create and maintain a testing schedule that is communicated to all parties as well as a classroom support schedule. Track and monitor tests, testing information, results. Download reports from tests and various databases to include in assessment reports, for mdt and iep meetings, and as requested by school principal.
Enter testing data into spreadsheets, forms, and tolls to be used by multiple stakeholders in a timely manner. Work with teachers and staff to create a safe testing environment, assist with giving tests orally as needed, follow up on next educational data collection required. Share collected data in required meetings and with necessary information in a timely way. This position includes primarily classroom monitoring responsibilities.
classroom support and building culture support; assisting the classroom with academic and behavioral supports as assigned; support the mtss process and data collection, and overall support for teachers and students in gathering appropriate data. Provide classroom monitoring when the classroom the teacher is away for brief periods of time or needed for a meeting. Provide specific tutoring. Assure safety and security issues are understood and addressed.
