Mechanic Specialist, Level 1-4 (Grand Junction, CO; Carr, CO; Rock Springs, WY; or Rawlins, WY)

The Mechanic Specialist position is preferred to be based out of Grand Junction, CO. We will also consider candidates who prefer to work from one of Kinder Morgan’s other offices located in the territory, depending on a candidate’s location; including but not limited to the Grand Junction, CO, Carr, CO, Rawlins, WY or Rock Springs, WY.

A typical work schedule is Monday through Thursday, ten hours per day.

Job Responsibilities
  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical equipment and/or auxiliary equipment.
  • Perform heavy mechanical maintenance and replacement of reciprocating and turbine engines and compressors, including prime movers and auxiliary units.
  • Based on experience, mentor teammates and other company personnel on proper operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
  • Identify, report, and assist in correcting safety and environmental concerns.
  • Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork timely and accurately.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory and tariff requirements.
  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
  • Mentor fellow employees when the opportunity presents itself.
  • Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills, and listen carefully.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance, and high level of performance.
  • Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public.
  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated.
  • Required to carry a company‑provided cell phone and be available to respond during working and non‑working hours.
  • This position requires the individual to follow all safety policies so that tasks and assignments are completed in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, with an emphasis on finishing each day injury and incident free.
  • This position requires acting as a company representative when interacting with contractors and vendors.
  • This individual will be required to work effectively in a team atmosphere.
  • This position requires a significant amount of overnight travel, working other than normal hours, overtime, schedule changes, and the ability to respond to call‑outs.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience / Specific Knowledge
  • Experience in mechanical maintenance of reciprocating/centrifugal compressor units.
  • Experience with turbine engines and natural gas compressors, auxiliary engines, and related equipment preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver license, and maintain a driving record satisfactory to the company and its insurers.
Competencies, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of compressor engines.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in heavy maintenance related to engine/compressor units. Also, preferably, experience with turbine engines, natural gas compressors, auxiliary engines, and related equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain natural gas plant equipment, pumps, exchangers, compressors, and related auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and light industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret various company policies and procedures, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manual and blueprints.
  • Ability to respond in a timely manner to any emergency or after‑hours calls.
  • Good communication skills – must be able to interface effectively with many internal and external customers, regulatory officials, company contacts and co‑workers.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of mechanical equipment, internal combustion engines, gas turbines, pumps, compressors, and related equipment.
  • Basic computer skills (knowledge of MS Office, operating systems, company software if applicable), trainable to custom software applications.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Customer focus.
