Health and Safety Specialist

Job Summary:

The Safety and Health Specialist will play a critical role in promoting and ensuring compliance with safety and health regulations across KLJ. This position involves the implementation of safety programs, conducting training sessions, and collaborating with project teams to foster a culture of safety.

• Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and health programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Conduct safety training sessions and education for employees to enhance safety awareness and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Perform regular site inspections and safety audits to identify hazards, assess risk, and ensure compliance with established safety standards.
• Investigate accidents and incidents, document findings and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, inspections, and training activities; prepare reports for management review.
• Work closely with project managers and teams to identify safety needs and provide guidance on best practices for health and safety management.
• Stay up to date with changes in safety regulations and best practices; ensure all project sites comply with applicable laws and standards.
• Promote a positive safety culture by encouraging employee engagement and participation in safety initiatives.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

• An Associate’s degree in a related field is required. Applicable experience may be substituted in lieu of formal education.
• 1-5 years of experience in a safety role within the construction or civil engineering industry.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate risks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working collaboratively with diverse teams.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.

• Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch and crawl.
• Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
• Talk or hear and communicate clearly.
• Frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
