Mechanical Engineer III – Safran

The Mechanical Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the operational maintenance of Safran Actuation Systems. This position leads the design and development of test benches, jigs, and tools, while ensuring all actuator maintenance activities meet Safran standards and regulatory requirements. The engineer provides technical support to operations, customers, and cross-functional teams; defines and validates disassembly/assembly processes; and manages technical, cost, schedule, and risk elements across multiple projects.

Responsibilities include analyzing repair data, performing root-cause investigations on repeat returns, managing line stoppages, supporting repair process improvements, and ensuring compliance with updated documentation. The role also contributes to test equipment development, sets action plans with Program Management, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the engineer mentors junior engineers, guides interns, and helps maintain team capability.

At level III, the engineer works with minimal supervision, may lead moderate-complexity projects, ensures test equipment is properly maintained, identifies risks in maintenance procedures, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on new capability development.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide technical support/assistance related to Aeronautic repair station; interact and collaborate with cross-functional teams, operations, quality, program management, suppliers and customers to resolve problems and implement solutions.
  • Prepare, write and review technical documentation.
  • Perform operational, maintenance, or testing procedures for mechanical products, components, equipment or systems.
  • Perform and validate First Article Inspection involving Quality and Shop Managers for new capability.
  • Provide/validate documentation to implement new capability to the company.
  • Modify and upgrade existing test equipment and tools to improve the maintenance process.
  • Provide input and guidance to designs and development of test equipment and tools.
  • Perform product troubleshooting and lab testing.
  • Verify tool design meets the requirements and expectations.
  • Manage line stoppage related to engineering.
  • Plan and follow up action plan with Program Manager over performance and target.
  • Ensure timely and efficient completion of projects to achieve the company's strategic and financial goals.
  • Demonstrate understanding of internal processes and methods and tools.
  • Ensure work complies with company policies and processes.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an accredited institution required.
  • Typical experience: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Has in-depth knowledge in own discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
  • Ability to analyze incident and propose technical solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and tasks to ensure a timely and efficient completion.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in aerospace or mechanical systems.
  • Understands the company standing, objectives, and goals.
  • Understands all processes interfacing with their organization.
  • Knowledge of production and repair process in the aeronautic environment.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.
  • Proficient with modeling and simulation software for analyzing mechanical behavior.
