Position: Part Time Lifeguard - The Epic Recreation Center

Are you a water enthusiast with a passion for safety? We’re on the lookout for dynamic individuals to join our team as a Lifeguard!

As a Lifeguard, you will ensure the safety of the general public by sitting on the stand, scanning the water, observing patrons’ activities, and enforcing pool rules and regulations. Other duties include ensuring the sanitation of water conditions, providing customer service, answering questions, setting up facilities for special events, and interacting with city employees and the general public.

This position requires lifting up to 50‑100 pounds on occasion.

  • Scanning the water to monitor activities; informing customers of upcoming events and answering inquiries.

  • Ensuring the safety of the general public by enforcing pool rules and regulations; monitoring activities and providing assistance when necessary.

  • Preparing facilities for special events by setting up tables, chairs, and decorating.

  • Regular and dependable attendance is required.

  • Monitoring activities in and near the water through patron surveillance.

  • Preventing injuries by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors.

  • Enforcing facility rules and regulations and educating patrons about them.

  • Recognizing and responding quickly and effectively to all emergencies.

  • Administering first aid and CPR, including using an AED when needed.

  • Working as a team with other lifeguards, facility staff, and management.

  • Assisting patrons by performing safety orientations, administering swim tests, fitting life jackets, and other duties.

  • Performing opening, closing, or facility safety checks and inspections.

  • All other duties as assigned by a supervisor/manager within your department/division.

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities is:

  • Education: Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to less than high school or equivalency.
  • Experience: No experience required.
  • Licenses: None.
  • Certifications

    Required:

    Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid. Training will be provided.
  • Swim Abilities: The prerequisite swimming skills evaluation confirms participants can successfully complete a timed endurance swim, tread water using only the legs, and retrieve a 10‑pound submerged object and return to the exit point without using a ladder or steps.
