Bookkeeper

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Bookkeeper to support day-to-day accounting operations for a financial services organization in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, coordinating billing and payment activity, and helping ensure project and company finances are tracked effectively. The ideal candidate brings solid bookkeeping experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple accounting priorities with accuracy and professionalism.

Responsibilities:

- Handle invoice processing and issue payments to vendors and subcontractors while ensuring transactions are recorded correctly and completed on schedule.

- Review expense coding, assign costs to the proper accounts and jobs, and address statement discrepancies through timely follow-up with suppliers.

- Prepare client billings, post incoming payments, track receivables, and communicate with customers regarding outstanding balances or account questions.

- Support project-related invoicing by maintaining accurate cost records and assisting with contract, progress, and time-based billing activities.

- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet items each month to help maintain complete and accurate financial records.

- Record journal entries, maintain general ledger accuracy, and contribute to month-end and year-end close processes.

- Monitor cash activity, organize accounting documentation, and provide financial information requested by external accountants or auditors.

- Assist with payroll support, budgeting activities, and other accounting or operational projects as business needs evolve. Requirements - Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or comparable hands-on experience in bookkeeping or accounting.

- At least 3 years of experience performing bookkeeping or accounting duties in a bookkeeping or accounting environment.

- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy, stay organized, and manage competing deadlines.

- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and dependable follow-through.

- Experience with Quick Books and/or Net Suite is preferred.

- Background in construction, landscaping, contracting, or other project-based accounting environments is a plus, including familiarity with job costing, project billing, payroll support, or subcontractor documentation.
