Position: Academic Interventionist (certified in Math, Reading, or English as a Second Language)

Hope Academy of West Michigan – Academic Interventionist (Math, Reading, English Language)

Hope Academy of West Michigan seeks a Math Interventionist, Reading Interventionist, or English Language Interventionist for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year.

General Purpose

The Academic Interventionist is accountable to the Principal and functions as a member of the Hope Academy team, which includes classroom teachers, instructional support staff, school social workers, the principal, and the administrative assistant. The interventionist develops students’ academic skills through courses of study, implements district‑approved curriculum, addresses specific educational needs, and provides feedback on progress and goals.

Essential Functions
  • Administers assessments and determines student progress, developing intervention schedules and supporting staff.
  • Advises parents/legal guardians on student progress and supports teacher expectations.
  • Provides feedback to students, parents, and administration, implementing intervention plans.
  • Maintains records of intervention progress and reports to the weekly RTI team.
  • Collab‑orates with instructional staff, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes.
  • Demonstrates classroom and subject‑specific instruction to meet individual student needs.
  • Directs paraprofessionals, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student aides.
  • Instructs students using Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.
  • Monitors students in various educational environments, ensuring safety and positive learning.
  • Participates in events (book studies, meetings, training), research, and knowledge sharing.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Supports other teachers with assistance and guidance.
  • Supports English language learners in acquiring math and literacy skills through appropriate strategies.
  • Assists with coverage of arrival, passing time, lunch, dismissal, and test proctoring.
  • Maintains a productive daily schedule and meets deadlines.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience
:
Teaching degree from an accredited college or university;
Michigan teaching certification required. Preferred experience with emotionally/behaviorally impaired adolescents.

Language Skills
:
Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple correspondence and present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.

Mathematical Skills
:
Ability to perform simple computations, calculate percentages, and use a calculator.

Reasoning Ability
:
Apply common sense to detailed instructions and solve basic problems.

Computer Skills
:
Proficiency with Microsoft applications and willingness to learn job‑specific computer skills.

Certificates & Licenses
:
Valid Michigan teaching certification. Endorsements required:
Mathematics (EX) 6‑12, Reading Specialist (BR), or English as a Second Language (NS). Must meet highly qualified status for subjects taught.

Training
:
Must complete annual training, professional development, and other position‑appropriate training.

Other Qualifications
:
Pass criminal history record search, physical and drug screen if required.

Physical Requirements
:
Regular walking, moving, lifting up to 25 pounds. Ability to communicate and exchange information.

Work Environment
:
Standard office/classroom equipment (computers, tablets, smartboards, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets).
