The Staff Systems Engineer (formerly titled Senior Systems Engineer) is responsible for leading a team through all parts of the engineering lifecycle while aligning to overall business objectives, project timelines, and customer expectations. In this role, you will leverage Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) experience to assist GE’s Common Core Systems (CCS) team develop and manage technical objectives for multiple aircraft platforms.

Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on the process of designing, integrating, verifying, and managing complex systems over their life cycles . At its core, systems engineering focuses on working with customers to elicit and document system requirements and certification approach, interface with third-party systems using the IMA resources, decompose and validate requirements for the building blocks that make up the system, drives early and frequent integration of blocks together, and ensures adequate verification of the various levels to complete the certification process for the system.

In this position you will develop system architectures, requirements, interfaces, integration, testing, and verification of complex hardware/software for aviation-based systems while mentoring others. This role collaborates with key subject matter experts and engineering project managers, on project planning, execution, bid estimations, and project performance. This position has the ability to influence and lead departmental operations, personnel development (mentoring), and hiring. The role is expected to identify technical and schedule risks across all disciplines involved in the project.

A self-starter will excel here. Sound judgment and leadership skills are required.

Location Preference:
Ideally, candidate is local to the greater Grand Rapids, MI area, or secondly Clearwater, FL.

Hybrid 3 days/week on-site (Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday). Optional remote Monday and Friday.

Job Description

This position will be responsible for leading, guiding and contributing to all technical aspects of the related project(s) across GE’s Common Core Systems (CCS) based on IMA technologies. This role provides technical leadership and assistance to project teams to insure they deliver on cost, quality, schedule, and technical milestones.

This position has the following essential responsibilities:

  • Ability to direct and influence the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA products/technologies.
  • May contribute to the development and verification plans in accordance with GE Aviation processes.
  • Develop architecture and trade studies as needed to comply with customer requirements.
  • Crosstrain and mentor other Systems Engineers in the systems engineering discipline.
  • Drive and support engineering reuse within the IMA product line.
  • Solves engineering problems directly with the customer.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the teams running projects within the product line. This includes supporting the engineering leads and project managers with project planning, conducting reviews, metrics development/tracking, forecasting, development processes, and risk and opportunity management.
  • Supports the engineering leads and project managers with the timely delivery of systems requirements, integrated validation/verification activities, and issue resolution.
  • Support the initiation of new projects to insure they are well planned in accordance with the product roadmap, the overall product line strategy and engineering process requirements.
