Mfg .Product Data Engineer – Leggett & Platt

Department / Division: Engineering

Summary: Responsible for all computer‑related product data such as three‑dimensional model definitions, fully dimensioned drawings, and all necessary system requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • 1. Create three‑dimensional product definitions from customer and product engineering specifications.
  • 2. Create fully dimensioned product drawings for customer approval and quality check sheets.
  • 3. Create three‑dimensional tool definitions (tooling data sheets – TDS) from manufacturing engineering specifications.
  • 4. Create fully dimensioned tool drawings as required.
  • 5. Responsible for revision control and maintaining drawing files.
  • 6. Responsible for computer system troubleshooting and upgrade installations.
  • 7. Responsible for managing customer computer files as required.
  • 8. Plan and formulate engineering programs and organize project staff according to requirements.
  • 9. Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements.
  • 10. Coordinate activities for technical development, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • 11. Direct integration of technical activities and products.
  • 12. Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • 13. Control expenditures within project budget limits.
  • 14. Prepare interim and completion project status reports.
  • 15. Coordinate first product runs, including sample submission and product verification studies.
  • 16. Control all aspects of engineering related quality issues, including customer follow‑up visits.
  • 17. Issue engineering changes as requested by customers, including internal production modifications and cost changes.
  • 18. Issue internal engineering changes related to processes and material changes.
  • 19. Follow products from initial quote through production release, servicing the account with engineering changes as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Coordinates employees involved with projects, including accounting, tooling, and production. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws – planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualification Requirements:
  • Education:

    Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; three years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to calculate figures such as percentages, area, circumference, volume; apply basic algebra, geometry, trigonometry.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions; interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: (If applicable, list here)
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent standing, walking, handling tools or controls, and talking or hearing required.
  • Occasional sitting and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.
  • Vision:
    Color vision required.
Work Environment:
  • Occasional work near moving mechanical parts and exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Noise level usually quiet.
