Overview

Leggett & Platt, Inc., North America’s leading independent manufacturer of office furniture components and mechanisms, is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer to join our Engineering team supporting the Work Furniture business. Our division specializes in high-quality contract furniture products, including chair mechanisms, bases, arms, seats, backs, and private label finished seating. Work Furniture brings diverse world-class manufacturing capabilities together in the production and assembly of high-quality contract furniture products.

As a Senior Product Development Engineer
, you will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, leading complex development projects, and mentoring junior engineers. You’ll bring deep technical expertise and strategic thinking to accelerate speed-to-market and support revenue growth through trendsetting product launches. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and influence the future of the L&P Work Furniture business unit.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of new products and enhancements to meet technical, safety, and customer specifications.
  • Oversee product development lifecycle using Solid Works and other CAD tools from concept through validation and launch.
  • Guide prototyping and testing efforts, ensuring robust performance and manufacturability.
  • Research and integrate new technologies, equipment, and processes to enhance performance and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, sales, and external suppliers.
  • Solve complex engineering challenges with creativity, precision, and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • 10% domestic and international travel required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (preferred)
  • 7+ years of design experience, preferably in furniture, consumer products, or mechanical systems
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD (Solid Works preferred), drawing creation, and FEA
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
