We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer - Water/Wastewater to join our team in Grand Rapids, MI. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems and equipment used in water and wastewater treatment processes. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal performance and compliance with environmental regulations. This position will be based at our Grand Rapids, MI office with occasional site visits to water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Full-time position with occasional overtime or on-call requirements as needed. We are looking for a team player who will also support our core principles – "understand our customers and satisfy their needs, do what we say we are going to do, and have fun."
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and design mechanical systems and components for water and wastewater treatment facilities including plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning considering factors such as building size, occupancy, and environmental conditions.
- Conduct load calculations to determine heating and cooling requirements.
- Stay updated on the latest HVAC technologies, trends, and industry standards.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics.
- Analyze and evaluate existing mechanical systems for efficiency and reliability.
- Propose and design improvements to enhance system performance and reduce operational costs.
- Manage the mechanical engineering aspects of projects from concept through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with the design team.
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new projects.
- Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and preferences for HVAC equipment.
- Coordinate with the design team to identify hazardous areas and locations requiring special ventilation, monitoring, or explosion-proof electrical equipment.
- Understand and ensure compliance with special requirements, codes, regulations, and standards as they apply to water and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Work closely with architects, electrical engineers, process engineers, and other professionals to integrate mechanical systems with overall plant operations.
- Provide technical support and training to maintenance staff and operators.
- Conduct quality checks of plumbing and HVAC installations to document compliance with design specifications.
- Participate in design reviews and coordination meetings.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PE) is a plus. - Experience:
