OverviewThis is a 9-month contract-to-hire position in field service engineering with a focus on automotive custom machinery. Ideal for entry-level candidates eager to transition into controls engineering roles, this opportunity offers a comprehensive learning environment. The role involves significant hands-on experience, starting with a training period at the Grand Rapids site where you’ll learn the basics of the job. After training, you will be actively involved with customers, helping them start up, run, and commission equipment.
Responsibilities- Participate in initial training at the Grand Rapids site, learning through observation and shadowing.
- Assist in the startup, running, and commissioning of equipment at customer sites.
- Work with basic electrical assembly, high voltage power sources, PLC panels, transistors, motor drives, and large metal, hydraulic, and mechanically automated equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting, installation, and preventive maintenance of automotive testing equipment.
- Provide excellent customer service by teaching customers how to operate the machinery.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
- Fundamental understanding of PLC/ladder logic
- Mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Clean driving record
Skills & Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in PLC programming
- Experience through co-ops or internships
- Displayed eagerness and interest in developing new skills
The role involves 70-90% travel across the US, requiring adaptability to different environments. When not traveling, work involves a mix of desk work and hands-on machine interaction at the home base. The most critical work will be done on the floor at customer sites, focusing on troubleshooting, installing, and servicing equipment. The position offers overtime and double-time pay for extra hours worked.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $63,000.00 - $75,000.00/year.
