Tax Senior Accountant (Federal Taxes)

Job SummaryAs part of National Finance, the Senior Tax Accountant is a member of an expanding team focused on providing corporate tax compliance that complies with applicable federal, state and local tax laws. The individual is responsible for the preparation of federal tax items, federal tax returns, the US tax provision and associated support. The role involves communicating internally with other BDO USA departments and externally with vendors and government agents on tax compliance issues.
Job Duties- Acts as an SME in federal income taxes, coordinating and executing federal income tax projects from beginning to end
- Provides guidance with the state income tax SME on provision and return tasks
- Gathers necessary data for corporate federal, state and local tax returns
- Prepares quarterly tax projections for federal, state and local income tax estimated payments and extensions
- Researches complex tax questions, communicates findings, and implements results on BDO USA's federal tax return and annual tax provision
- Collects required information and drafts communications to respond to notices from tax authorities
- Prepares tax returns using One Source OIT
- Creates work papers computing the US income tax provision, enters them in One Source OPT, and drafts financial tax footnote disclosures while supporting external auditor correspondence
- Acts as the contact for federal income tax audits
- Reconciles tax accounts within the general ledger and coordinates associated JEs within the month‑end close process
- Other duties as required
- Bachelor’s degree required; focus in Accounting, Taxation, or Finance preferred
- Master’s degree in Accounting or Taxation preferred
- Four (4) or more years of experience in a public accounting tax team or a corporate tax department
- Experience preparing federal and state corporate income tax returns
- CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word
- Prior experience using One Source (OIT & OPT) or other corporate tax income software
- Prior experience using Oracle or One Stream financial tools preferred
- Ability to oversee projects with limited supervision
- Superior customer service skills
- Maintain confidentiality of BDO USA’s tax activities
- Effective communication with professionals at all levels
- Work in a deadline‑driven environment and handle multiple projects with attention to detail
- Multi‑task while working independently or in a team
- Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
National Range: $75,000 – $95,000. NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $75,000 – $95,000. Maryland: $75,000 – $95,000.
