About this positionThe Anti‑Money Laundering (AML) Investigator is responsible for ensuring adherence to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) through transaction monitoring, investigation of suspicious activity, and the drafting of Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs). The role also involves identifying and monitoring high‑risk activity and accounts, making recommendations to file SARs to the BSA Officer, and documenting findings to maintain compliance with BSA, AML, USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC requirements in accordance with credit union policies.
Whatyou’ll do
- Investigate and analyze customer account activity, reviewing suspicious alerts from AML software, branch referrals, back‑office departments, and other BSA teammates.
- Create well‑documented findings and write justification summaries for false‑positive decisions.
- Recommend SAR filings to BSA Management and prepare documentation for FinCEN submission.
- Use AML software to investigate, rate, and monitor high‑risk members or activity based on LMCU’s risk appetite.
- Maintain knowledge of AML rules, regulations, and best practices.
- Perform other tasks or duties as needed to support the AML/BSA/Compliance team.
- Previous compliance experience, preferably in BSA/AML, with at least two years in a banking environment.
- A two‑year college degree or equivalent specialized coursework (~64 credit hours).
- Analytical and investigative skills to assess expected activity for members.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
- Knowledge of financial crimes and how they are perpetrated.
- Understanding of business operations and expected transaction patterns.
- Proficient computer skills, experience with software systems and MS applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, self‑initiating activity reviews and research.
- Effective time‑management skills, prioritizing multiple tasks with competing timelines.
- Demonstrated knowledge of banking structures and credit union operations.
- In-depth knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act and AML regulations.
- Strong ability to understand BSA/AML requirements, mitigate risks, and adapt to changes.
- Good working knowledge of Symitar, Application Extender/OnBase, and Image Center.
