Forest View Hospital is a private 108‑bed psychiatric facility located seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. The facility is licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission, and has over 45 years of experience in behavioral health care.

Position Overview

The Housekeeper works full‑time under the direction of the Housekeeping Supervisor. Responsibilities include routine and terminal cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, clinical areas, assessment rooms, break rooms, outpatient areas, restrooms, corridors, and other hospital spaces. Shift hours are 10:30 am to 7:00 pm with alternate weekends.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform all assigned tasks professionally to reflect the highest integrity of the Environmental Services Department.
  • Conduct routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, and corridors in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner.
  • Execute terminal/detailed cleaning of patient rooms when required to ensure a germ‑free environment and enhance patient and employee safety.
  • Complete work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Use appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
  • Use and maintain equipment properly.
  • Assist visitors with directions when requested.
  • Introduce yourself to patients, families, and visitors.
  • Report safety hazards as appropriate.
  • Transport trash and hazardous waste to the appropriate disposal area.
  • Replenish cleaning supplies.
  • Follow all infection control practices including hand washing, standard precautions, and isolation precautions.
  • Maintain set quality standards when performing job duties.
  • Work independently under normal supervision, adhering to safety precautions at all times.
  • Apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Read and understand equipment operational instructions.
  • Clean and maintain carpet and tiled floors as needed.
  • Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintaining a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Attend to both patient and staff housekeeping needs courteously.
  • Work day, evening, or night shifts as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of hospital environmental services/housekeeping preferred.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to determine appropriate course of action in complex situations.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous responsibilities and prioritize scheduling of work.
  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and timely.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others professionally.
