Job Summary
Responsible for all aspects of the diagnostic physics program and radiologic technology at Corewell Health. Responsibilities include clinical duties, innovation, teaching, research, service to the Corewell Health enterprise and career development through leadership of the Diagnostic Medical Physics team as well as involvement in professional societies. Within Imaging and for departments that use imaging in other service lines, responsible for image quality and radiation safety for patients and employees.
Responsibilities- Provide consultant services to the organization and physicians in the clinical use of all imaging modalities.
- Radiologic technology responsibilities include support for optimizing clinical protocols.
- Actively participates in departmental projects including radiation shielding evaluation as well as operational requirements for imaging equipment.
Responsible for compliance with Federal (NRC) and State of Michigan regulations pertaining to the use of radiation. The individual in this position will be expected to be the named RSO on the Corewell Health West NRC license.
CertificationCertification by either the American Board of Radiology (Nuclear Medicine Physics) is required or must be obtained within 9 months of hire. Alternative certification by the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine is also accepted.
Essential Functions- Oversees the activities of the physicists and any other staff assigned to the physics and technology area. Is responsible for ensuring that all imaging equipment is evaluated and satisfies standards.
- Serves as the Qualified Medical Physicist for Imaging at Corewell Health West. Includes oversight of modality accreditation efforts and technical aspects of the department quality assurance program.
- Serves as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for Spectrum Health Hospitals, Grand Rapids and manages the functions of the SHH Radiation Safety Committee. Provides technical expertise regarding radiation safety issues, writing and reviewing policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory and Joint Commission standards.
- Provides calculations for shielding design of diagnostic X‑ray, CT and nuclear medicine rooms, including SPECT/CT and PET/CT, and verifies integrity of newly installed protective barriers and provides reports for federal and state agencies.
- Acts as a consultant to and works with other team members on treatment techniques for optimization of radiation dose delivery, program development, and implementation of new technologies and treatment techniques.
- Provides radiological physics and radiation safety education to diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology residents as well as physicians, technologists, and other hospital and nursing employees.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning and assigning work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ensures that processes and services are continuously monitored for quality, cost‑effectiveness, and efficiency. Engages in process and quality improvement activities. Makes and implements recommendations to improve operational efficiency and to implement new services for areas of responsibility.
- Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk‑mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.

- Required:
Master’s Degree in Radiological or Medical Physics - Preferred:
Doctorate in Radiological or Medical Physics - 5 years of relevant experience in diagnostic imaging with specialization in nuclear medicine imaging – Required
- 2 years of relevant experience in a radiation safety program – Required
- 1 year of relevant experience in administrative and supervisory roles – Preferred
