Release Train Engineer at Otter Base
Otter Base is seeking a Release Train Engineer (RTE) who will act as a servant leader and coach for an Agile Release Train (ART), guiding the train to deliver value consistently and predictably.
LocationGrand Rapids, MI (hybrid; on‑site at least quarterly)
Role OverviewThe Release Train Engineer (RTE) operates at the program level, facilitating alignment, execution, and continuous improvement across multiple Agile teams.
The RTE is accountable for overall planning, coordination, execution and delivery of program value.
Key Responsibilities- Primary servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART).
- Facilitate ART events, including PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, PO Syncs, System Demos, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and retrospectives.
- Foster collaboration, alignment, and transparency across Agile teams, Product Management, Architecture, and business stakeholders.
- Own and manage end‑to‑end program execution, ensuring commitments are met and value is delivered predictably.
- Track and communicate program metrics, progress, risks, and dependencies.
- Partner with Product Management and System Architects to support backlog readiness, sequencing, and delivery planning.
- Proactively identify, manage, and mitigate risks, impediments, and dependencies impacting the ART.
- Facilitate dependency resolution across teams and with external stakeholders.
- Drive problem‑solving and decision‑making at the program level.
- Coach teams, Product Owners, and leaders in SAFe, Agile, and Lean principles.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and innovation.
- Ensure Inspect & Adapt outcomes lead to prioritized and executed improvement actions.
- Act as a key liaison between delivery teams and senior leadership.
- Communicate program status, risks, and outcomes clearly and effectively.
- Support organizational change and Agile maturity at scale.
- 5‑10 years of experience in Agile delivery, program management, or related roles.
- Proven experience supporting or leading Agile Release Trains in a SAFe environment.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Experience managing complex programs with multiple teams and dependencies.
- Deep understanding of Agile, Lean, and SAFe principles.
- SAFe certifications (RTE, SPC, or equivalent).
- Background as a Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or Program Manager.
- Experience working in large‑scale, enterprise software environments.
- Familiarity with Agile tooling (Jira, Azure Dev Ops, Rally, etc.).
