The Apprentice will assist the Lineman in various aspects of line installation and construction of fiber optic cable. Duties include aerial work such as bucket truck operation and climbing of wood poles, plus pushing, pulling, lifting and positioning of tools, equipment, and materials in excess of 50 pounds. Must be knowledgeable and experienced in working in close proximity to energized power lines, with basic knowledge of occupational hazards and proper safety precautions.
- Assist line crew as needed
- Operate various hand tools i.e., drills, hammers, etc.
- Bucket truck operation
- Wood pole climbing, aerial work
- Stringing, sagging and clipping of ADSS
- Manage materials
- Notify customers of impending service disruption while power lines are under construction
- Clear undergrowth of right-of-way using hand tools or saws
- Perform general cleanup of work area
- Drive and operate bucket truck
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Distribution operation, construction and maintenance knowledge
- Proficient in climbing wood poles
