Adoptive Family Support Network – D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s – Wayne County (Part‑time, 18–20 hours/week, hybrid). Salary: $18.00–$20.00 per hour.

Position Summary

The Adoptive Parent Consultant partners with adoptive parents to provide support, information, and community resources necessary for the lifelong wellbeing of adoptive families. Support services are delivered via phone, text, direct messaging, email, video conferencing, and/or in person. The role involves moderating virtual support groups, facilitating or developing community‑based support groups, providing reflective listening and responsive support, outreach and collaboration with community partners, and ongoing learning to best serve adoptive families.

Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to contacts and provide support or resources.
  • Cultivate inclusive and equitable relationships with diverse adoptive families, community partners, and agencies.
  • Organize and host recruitment and retention activities that are client‑driven, culturally relevant, and accessible.
  • Facilitate or develop community‑based support groups.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure culturally responsive care and programming.
  • Identify local and regional resources relevant to adoptive families.
  • Participate in ongoing learning and knowledge exchange with other APCs and parent leaders across Michigan.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and linguistic differences in all interactions.
  • Attend AFSN team meetings twice per month (virtually) and twice annually in person.
  • Participate in bi‑weekly supervision with the AFSN Supervisor.
  • Document client data and contacts as specified by AFSN.
  • Maintain a monthly log of community events and activities hosted or attended.
  • Serve as a cultural bridge between youth, families, and community groups from different backgrounds.
  • Participate in boards or committees to collaborate, network, and build community partnerships.
  • Travel to scheduled mandatory meetings, training, and community events as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of direct lived experience with adoption or guardianship of a child in Michigan, another state, or internationally (or comparable experience as a foster parent or relative caregiver).
  • Knowledge of community resources and support for adoptive parents in their localities.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, positive driving record, and proof of automobile insurance.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to clients’ socioeconomic characteristics; warmth and ability to build meaningful relationships across cultures.
  • Knowledge of cultural values, norms, and practices for key populations served to address disparities.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
  • High‑quality customer service skills, ability to handle multiple priorities, and prioritize to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency (or willingness to become proficient) with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, and Salesforce.
