Overview
The Home Study and Post Release Services (HS/PRS) program is a nationwide approach to guarantee the ongoing support as well as the long‑term safety, success, and well‑being of unaccompanied children prior, during, and after they have been released from the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to parents or sponsors.
$1,500 sign‑on bonus
Location: Must reside on the West Side of Michigan
Responsibilities- Conduct home visits and phone contacts to assess the safety and appropriateness of the child’s placement with sponsor and connect child to community services to address risk factors.
- Provide ongoing case management with a focus on screening and making appropriate referrals to address child’s needs in domains such as placement issues, safety, education, health, mental health, legal/immigration proceedings, substance abuse, independent living, criminal/juvenile justice, and child enrichment activities.
- Provide crisis intervention services directly or connect families to services to ensure the minor’s safety and well‑being during a crisis.
- Submit detailed and thorough documentation in compliance with Global Refuge policies and procedures.
- Utilize social work best practices for thorough assessments of the child’s progress and services provided.
- Maintain regular and timely communication with the supervisor regarding any issues concerning the child’s safety, stability or well‑being in the placement.
- Participate in ongoing supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or other relevant degree or equivalent experience.
- At least 1 year of experience with child welfare programs.
- Knowledge of community resources and ability to connect families to community services.
- Excellent clinical and crisis intervention skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Critical assessment and analysis skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to travel up to 70 %.
- Knowledge of and experience working with refugee or immigrant children preferred.
- Cross‑cultural or international experience preferred.
Position Requirements
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- Must be able to pass an FBI background check as well as a CA/N check for every state in which resided during the last five years.
- Fluency in Spanish is required.
