About

The Position

The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for providing state-of-the-art group exercise instruction that contributes to each member s health and fitness goals. To develop and instruct fun, energetic, and highly motivational exercise classes for all fitness and skill levels. This position is a part of our Group Exercise Department reporting to the Group Exercise Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a quality class by arriving 10 minutes prior to the start of class, have music ready and cued, programming prepared and start and end class on time.
  • Maintain accurate records of class attendance. Meet attendance goals set by Group Exercise Manager.
  • Learn new releases, programming and follow MVP Sports Clubs guidelines for MOSSA and Les Mills program shelf life. Work with the Group Exercise Manager on modifying any non-MOSSA and non-Les Mills programs.
  • Ensure that all group exercise areas are always clean and safe. Oversee the preventive maintenance and proper usage and storage of all equipment.
  • Resolve any member issues through effective customer service skills and referral to the appropriate authority. Enforce club rules and guidelines, taking appropriate action where indicated and reporting any problems to the Group Exercise Manager.
  • Respond to emergency situations, notifying the appropriate authority.
  • Participate in department events focusing on promoting the club and group fitness.
  • Keep a working knowledge of basic theoretical concepts and stay current with research and trends in the field. Maintain certifications and membership in professional organizations. MOSSA and Les Mills certified instructors watch quarterly education.
  • Substitute when and where necessary, bearing in mind the maximum number of classes allowed per week is 10.
  • Responsible for obtaining substitutes for classes and relay information to Group Exercise Manager.
  • Instructs, as defined by MVP Sports Clubs, each group exercise class format as listed in the operating guidelines.
  • Able to authentically move and execute the fitness element being trained, including moving in time to music and safely demonstrating movements.
  • Ensure participant experience during class through original scripting, variety in coaching and a positive encouraging demeanor that facilitates participant success.
  • Adhere to additional responsibilities and policies, adapting to changes and needs of the company.
  • Attend and participate in regular MVP Sports Clubs training sessions as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain a neat and professional personal appearance, by wearing the MVP Sports Clubs uniform and name badge.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Current certifications through ACE, ACSM, AFAA or NSCA or any unique certifications pertaining to a specialized group exercise class and/or format preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience teaching various or specific group exercise programs preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Training. If hired without CPR or First Aid certifications, in-house training to obtain these will be provided.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Must have physical ability to instruct appropriate classes; for specific class requirements as outlined by industry standards of certifications and/or training including but not limited to yoga, kickboxing, cycling, weight training, aquatics, etc. Physical requirements include bending, lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 50 lbs, rhythmic movement, isometric poses, kicks, punches, stretching, choreographed movement and calisthenics, etc.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Bend, stoop, crouch, climb, stand, sit and turn/pivot; life/lower, push, pull and carry up to 40 lbs; perform office tasks requiring simple hand grasping, fine hand manipulation and reach; see, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform tasks and maintain safety.
