About the Position

The Group Exercise Instructor is responsible for providing state‑of‑the‑art group exercise instruction that contributes to each member's health and fitness goals. The goal is to develop and instruct fun, energetic, and highly motivational exercise classes for all fitness and skill levels. This position is a part of our Group Exercise Department, reporting to the Personal Training & Group Exercise Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Arrive 10 minutes before the start of class, with music ready and cued and programming prepared, and start and finish class on time.
  • Maintain accurate records of class attendance and meet the attendance goal set by the Personal Training & Group Exercise Manager.
  • Effectively learn new releases, programming, and follow MVP Sports Clubs' guidelines for MOSSA program shelf life and work with the Group Exercise Manager on modifying any non‑MOSSA programs.
  • Ensure that the group exercise areas are clean and safe at all times, oversee preventive maintenance and proper usage and storage of all equipment.
  • Communicate with the Group Exercise & Personal Training Manager regarding all equipment, recommending replacement for lost or damaged items.
  • Orient each new member by educating them on execution, programming, appropriate options, and equipment.
  • Resolve member issues through effective customer service skills and refer to the appropriate authority. Enforce club rules and guidelines, take appropriate action where indicated and report problems to the Group Exercise Manager.
  • Respond in emergency situations, notifying the appropriate authority.
  • Participate in department events promoting the club and group fitness.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of basic theoretical concepts and keep current with research and trends in the field; maintain certifications and memberships in professional organizations. MOSSA certified instructors receive quarterly education.
  • Substitute when and where necessary, bearing in mind the maximum number of classes allowed per week is 10.
  • Obtain substitutes for classes and relay information to the Group Exercise Manager.
  • Instruct each group exercise class format as defined by MVP Sports Clubs.
  • Authenticate movement and execute the fitness element being trained, moving in time to music and safely demonstrating movements.
  • Ensure participant experience during class through original scripting, variety in coaching, and a positive, encouraging demeanor that facilitates participant success.
  • Adhere to additional responsibilities and policies, adapting to changes and needs of the company.
  • Attend and participate in regular MVP Sports Clubs training sessions as directed by the supervisor.
