Responsibilities
  • Supervises a line clearance crew and plans daily work for the crew.
  • Assigns work for individual crew members and directs crew in performing work according to accepted line clearance practices. Adjusts to field requirements and may take independent action without close supervision.
  • Recognizes poisonous plants and uses proper safeguards against them.
  • Enforces safe work practices and conducts safety training in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Obtains permission from property owners to trim or remove trees and applies herbicides; coordinates access and informs about interruptions; repairs minor damages if they occur. Escalates complex situations to the General Foreperson.
  • Maintains customer and public relations through effective completion of work and professional conduct of crew.
  • Keeps accurate records, timesheets, and reports related to crew performance; provides reports to supervisor and Utility representatives.
  • Receives and interprets orders involving drawings and symbols related to power lines, voltages, and line equipment.
  • Provides safety training for assigned personnel and coordinates with client policies.
  • Controls crew costs through effective use of manpower, methods, and equipment.
  • Assesses weather conditions to determine start/stop times for work.
  • Safeguards employees and the public; sets up barriers and directs traffic as needed; trained in tree and bucket rescue; adheres to safety rules.
  • Maintains trucks and tools; requests major repairs when required; keeps work areas tidy.
  • Responds to emergency situations to eliminate hazards and expedite service restoration.
  • Trims/removes trees by climbing or using equipment; loads/removes debris; operates chippers as needed.
  • Trains new employees on proper procedures.
  • Works around hazardous equipment near energized lines and wears required PPE.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience on tree trimming or clearing crews or successful completion of applicable performance reviews.
  • Excellent leadership skills; able to handle stress and multi-task.
  • Basic knowledge of trees and arboricultural techniques near energized conductors.
  • Knowledge of ANSI Z133.1-2000 standards.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps.
  • Professional verbal and written communication with the public and colleagues.
  • Enforces on-the-job safety practices and wears PPE as required.
  • Ability to enter/exit vehicles repeatedly and work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions; professional representation of Wright Tree Service.
  • Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs infrequently and up to 30 lbs frequently.
  • Willingness to work long hours, overtime, and be on-call during emergencies.
  • Ability to operate and service tools and equipment; valid CDL may be required; pre-employment drug test may be required.
  • Herbicide applicator/operator certification and CPR/First Aid as required by law and company policy.
