New Horizon Co-op is hiring a Health, Safety and Sustainability Advisor at our Resource Office in Grande Prairie, Alberta.

What you’ll do:
  • Provide advice and support to New Horizon Co-op on a broad variety of health, safety and sustainability activities, including the development, implementation and maintenance of health and safety programs
  • Develop strategies on safety and sustainability programs and initiatives
  • Support health and safety projects, including the development and updating of resources, policies, procedures, and manuals
  • Coordinate and facilitate required health and safety training for employees and contractors (e.g., WHMIS, TDG, First Aid), and maintain accurate training records
  • Conduct health and safety orientations for new employees and contractors
  • Review and update of health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative changes and support implementation of program updates as required. Ensure compliance with applicable legislation is maintained
  • Conduct incident investigations, hazard identification, reporting, and corrective action tracking
  • Provide guidance to supervisors/managers on the administration of WCB claims and support the creation of Return to Work (RTW) programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Who you are:
  • High School Diploma plus completion of an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
  • 3-6 years of relevant experience
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Health and Safety management systems
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Strong observation, incident response, and problem-solving skills
  • High level of professionalism and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
